Pyrethrins are insecticides that are derived from the extract of chrysanthemum flowers (pyrethrum). The plant extract, called pyrethrum contains Pyrethrins;and pyrethrin;collectively, called Pyrethrins. Pyrethrins are widely used for control of various insect pests. How Pyrethrins work nerve cell membranes have a specific electrical charge. Altering the amount of ions(charged atoms) passing through ion channels causes the membrane to depolarize which, in turn, causes a neurotransmitter to be released. Neurotransmitters help nerve cells communicate. Electrical messages sent between nerve cells allow them to generate a response, like a movement in an animal or insect. Pyrethrins affect the nervous system of insects by causing multiple action potentials in the nerve cells by delaying the closing of an ion channel. Outstanding properties: Rapid action: Pyrethrins is a contact insecticide attacking the nervous system of insects almost immediately and causing knockdown soon followed by kill. Low mammalian toxicity Lack of insect immunity: the structure of the molecule is so complex that insect resistance to Pyrethrins is not a practical problem. Broad spectrum of activity: because Pyrethrins consists of a group of related compounds, it has a wider spectrum of activity against insect species than many single insecticide. It can be use against any insect found in the house or garden, mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, aphides, ants. Environment friendly: Pyrethrins is a degraded by the combination of sunlight and air and therefore presents little of the hazards, which are usually associated with other classes of persistent insecticide. Repellency: Pyrethrins is a powerful insect repellent which in combination with its low mammalian toxicity favors it in many applications.
